Die Geschichte der beiden Musikvereine Scharnstein und Viechtwang, damals waren sie noch in einer Kapelle vereint, beginnt im Jahre 1888. Zum 40. Regierungsjubiläum Kaiser Franz Josephs im Dezember 1888 trat die neue “Türkische Musikkapelle“ das erste Mal an die Öffentlichkeit. Türkische Musikkapellen nannte man die ursprünglichen Harmoniemusiken, seit sie die Schlaginstrumente der Janitscharen (Große Trommel und Becken) in ihren Reihen mit sich führten.

Die Orts- und Veteranenmusik

Im Jahre 1890 hat sich die Kapelle mit den Veteranen vereint und nannte sich nun Orts- und Veteranenmusik Viechtwang. Mangels einer eigenen Uniform wurde die Musikkapelle auch mit der Veteranenuniform ausgestattet. Ein Gruppenbild aus dem Jahre 1894 zeigt den Veteranenverein mit der Musikkapelle (mit Gründer Raimund Berndl).
